Are Vegetables Still Needed Today











We ABSOLUTELY DO NEED vegetables!!! EGW NEVER said we do not need them. There are quotes where she leaves out nuts so we don’t need them? You are misunderstanding the health message.
 
Yes, vegetables were added after sin and that is where we are living.
 
VEGETABLES ARE A BUILDER OF THE BODY
 
According to the Bible in Genesis 3:17-19, vegetables were not allowed in the diet until after the fall of Adam & Eve because man would now be sweating due to the curse of the land, bringing forth thorns & thistles. This sweating causes a major loss of “electrolytes” aka minerals. Therefore, God permitted the eating of the vegetables. These vegetables contain minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, etc., which are essential for health. Man was made from the dirt, and it is the food that grows directly out of the dirt that we need to replace the lost electrolytes.
 
She does not always mention everything in ONE quote.The same reason she doesn't include dress when she mentions the laws of health in some quotes, and why she doesn't list all of what Present truth is. She doesn't always list everything under a category. THIS IS WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO READ ALL HER BOOKS BEFORE ANYONE MAKES ANY CONCLUSIONS ON THINGS.
 
HERE ARE THE 2 QUOTES I AM REFERRING TO:
  1. “Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power--THESE ARE THE TRUE REMEDIES.” {MH 127.2} 
(Notice how dress isn't mentioned in this quote; neither is voice culture. This is the quote that makes almost all SDA's assume there's only 8 laws of health.) 
 
2. “There are many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is “present truth” that the flock needs now. I have seen the danger of the messengers running off from the important points of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to unite the flock and sanctify the soulSatan will here take every possible advantage to injure the cause.”  {EW 63.1}
 
But such subjects as the sanctuary, in connection with the 2300 days, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, are perfectly calculated to explain the past Advent movement and show what our present position is, establish the faith of the doubting, and give certainty to the glorious future. These, I have frequently seen, were the principal subjects on which the messengers should dwell. (notice she doesn't say “state of the dead”, “hellfire”, “health reform”, etc., but many leaders and people claim these are what make present truth only, not realizing she has other quotes in the same book telling us the state of the dead and health are also present truth messages.” {EW 63.2} 
 
That quote you posted was written in 1909, and so was the following quote I am about to post.  She says WE NEED THE DIET OF A MORTAL.  What Diet Did Got Give To Man After They Were Mortals?
Vegetables.  And notice in the quote where she says this below, she mentions vegetables.  
Vegetables are a must have until we are given our food from angels during the great time of trouble.
 
We are mortal, and must supply ourselves with food that will give proper sustenance to the body.”  (CD 92.3)
 
“A diet lacking in the proper elements of nutrition, brings reproach upon the cause of health reform. We are mortal, and must supply ourselves with food that will give proper nourishment to the body.”  {CD 207.2}  
 
Some of our people, while conscientiously abstaining from eating improper foods, neglect to supply themselves with the elements necessary for the sustenance of the body. Those who take an extreme view of health reform are in danger of preparing tasteless dishes, making them so insipid that they are not satisfying. Food should be prepared in such a way that it will be appetizing as well as nourishing. It should not be robbed of that which the system needsI use some salt, and always have, because salt, instead of being deleterious, is actually essential for the blood. Vegetables should be made palatable with a little milk or cream, or something equivalent (Ella Kellogg said the equivalent today for milk and cream is coconut milk).  {CD 207.3}   1909

Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables, in proper combination, contain all the elements of nutrition…”

Science in the Kitchen tells us HOW to cook veggies and yes the quote below is correct…it says COARSE veggies are in the same category as tea, coffee, etc. but we need to COOK THEM.
RAW VEGETABLES STEALS IODINE FROM THE BODY AND THE ENZYME IS NOT RELEASED FOR PROPER MINERAL ABSORPTION.

The effect of a concentrated and stimulating diet, also of foods deficient in the elements of nutrition, should be made plain. Tea and coffee, fine-flour bread, pickles, coarse vegetables, candies, condiments, and pastries fail of supplying proper nutriment. Many a student has broken down as the result of using such foods. Many a puny child, incapable of vigorous effort of mind or body, is the victim of an impoverished diet. I do have to say I am a little bewildered as to why EGW added grass in the quote I gave above
I don’t see grass in any quote you gave above.
 
WHAT'S WRONG WITH RAW VEGETABLES? 
             THEY:
·       Mess with Digestion
·       Don't have the released enzymes necessary for food break down
·       Produce a weakness in the system
·       Steal Iodine and other minerals that are crucial for health
·       Cause Diarrhea
·       AND THE LIST GOES ON
 
Here are quotes from 3 different people (Sister White, Dr. Kellogg, and J.H. Kellogg,'s Wife, Ella Kellogg) stating that coarse (Raw) vegetables are poison to the system:
