Sugar Kiss Melon

I couldn’t find much info on Sugar Kiss Melons but if you have never had one you are missing out! They are my absolute favorite melon; they are the BEST melon I have ever tasted. Cantaloupes are good, especially sweet cantaloupes are fantastic….but a Sugar Kiss Melon is better than I ever imagined possible. I'm ranking it up there with Medjool Dates.

Sugar kiss melons are sweet, soft melon with pale orange flesh and a pale netted rind. A melon so sweet it's called “Sugar Kiss — and that's no exaggeration. The cotton candy of melons, the soft orange center will melt on your tongue, bursting with rich, cantaloupe flavor.

Melons are high in fiber and low in calories at about 60 calories per cup. Melons offer essential vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin that plays an important role in the growth and maintenance of all tissues in your body.

Vitamin A plays a role in promoting healthy teeth, skin, bone, mucous membranes and vision. Vitamin A is also important for boosting the immune system. Collagen is also essential for healthy skin and hair. Furthermore, vitamin A is known to promote healthy tissue growth, including in skin, and the high water content in cantaloupes helps keep skin moisturized and supple.

Potassium – Consuming adequate amounts of potassium in your diet may lower blood pressure and reduce the impact of high-sodium foods. Potassium is a mineral electrolyte that keeps electricity flowing throughout your body, which is required for proper heart function. Potassium may also help protect your cardiovascular system against high blood pressure, according to the FDA.

To pick the perfect melon, first check the aroma. It should be sweet and perfumy, practically filling the room.  It’s a little hard to pick the perfect smooth-skinned melon, but the rough-skinned melons such as cantaloupes and muskmelons that have netting on the skin offer more clues. The netting itself should be raised above the peel. The background color should be golden, not green. Give a gentle squeeze at the stem end– it should give slightly. If you hear the seeds sloshing around when you give it a shake, the melon should be eaten right away.

The only place I have ever found these delightful melons is at Sam’s Club. I hear Trader Joe’s carries them but we don’t have one close by us. If you can find one of these melons, I highly recommend you try one, you won’t be sorry and will go back for more!
