Urinary Tract Infection

INGREDIENTS:
  • ½ of a peeled lemon
  • 1 ½ cups blueberries
  • 2 cups watermelon
  • ½ cup cranberries
Blend ingredients and drink…..Do this 3x a day.

Important NoteIf you can't find fresh cranberries – use pure cranberry juice with no added sugar! Most cranberry juice contains added sugar and you have to look hard to find one that is true 100% cranberry.

Lemon – A good source of potassium, Vitamin C, calcium, Vitamin A, and citric acid, lemon is claimed as one of the most effective home remedies for urinary tract infections. Primarilyit works by changing the pH level of the blood as well as the urinary tract which inhibit the proliferation of opportunistic bacteria. Furthermore, it also prevents the onset of UTI by working on the sugary environment where UTI-causing bacteria normally thrive. It also gets rid of impurities and eliminates the reservoir of bacteria that cause UTI.

Blueberries – In a similar fashion to cranberries, blueberries are also claimed to be effective in flushing urinary tract infections. Blueberries are excellent sources of iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and folic acid. They are also rich sources of proanthocyanidins, a powerful compound responsible for the treatment of UTI. Though proanthocyanidins do not directly work on eradicating bacteria, these compounds are thought to play vital roles in altering the tissues of the bladder which inhibit bacteria to thrive until they create an infection. This simply means that whenever bladder is emptied, possible infection is avoided.

Watermelon – According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), urinary tract infection is a condition triggered by heat and damp in the lower abdominal area of the body. TCM practitioners believe that since watermelon is sweet and cold, then it makes an excellent remedy for the symptoms of UTI. In recent researches, watermelon is known to have diuretic properties which allow people to urinate more frequently. In effect, it washes out bacteria that may trigger the development of UTI.

Cranberries – Upon the onset of urinary tract infection, intake of cranberry juice is widely agreed to be of great help. Just like blueberries, cranberries contain highly potent compounds that inhibit bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract.

Before, scientists believed that cranberries worked by increasing the acidity of the urine making it a non-suitable ground for bacteria to thrive. Recent researches claimed that cranberries contain proanthocyanidins compounds that inhibit bacteria from sticking or adhering to the walls of the urinary tract.
