Delayed Cord Clamping

The benefit of waiting for the blood to stop pulsating from mother to baby is great. Once that happens, the baby no longer receives nutrients through the placenta.

Delayed cord clamping is very importantusually 3-5 minutes after birth. Wait until the cord has stopped pulsating, meaning the placenta has done its job and is no longer sending blood to the baby. DO NOT CUT SOONER.

At birth, for as long as the umbilical cord is pulsating (usually 3 to 5 minutes), most of this blood transfers to the baby. When the cord is cut immediately, the baby misses out on this normal biological blood transfer.
