Red Cabbage is well known for its high percentage of phyto-chemicals
such as isothiocyanates, zea-xanthin, and lutein which can help to effectively protect the body against colon, breast,
stomach, lung, and prostate cancer. It has also been shown to help
lower cholesterol levels by working with bile acids in the digestive process to
remove cholesterol from the blood.

Red Cabbage
Red Cabbage is one of the most healthful and least expensive vegetables available
today. It is rich in vitamins C, K, & B-complex and minerals such
as iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. It is also high in
anthocyanin polyphenols which are powerful
antioxidants that contain potent anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and
anti-cancer properties.
Red Cabbage is an ideal food for a healthy digestive tract as it is known to help reduce bad bacteria and promote good friendly bacteria (such as acidophilus) in the gut. Red cabbage is particularly beneficial for the nervous system and has even been shown to help reduce buildup of plaque in the brain that can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. It is also an excellent food for ulcers, osteoporosis, constipation, heart disease, candida, age related macular degeneration, fibromyalgia, dementia, and weight loss.
Red Cabbage is also great for boosting the immune system and reducing chronic inflammation in the body.
Eat your red cabbage COOKED, as it is a coarse vegetable and raw vegetables steals iodine from the body and the enzyme is not released for proper mineral absorption.
“In the study of hygiene, students should be taught the nutrient value of different foods. The effect of a concentrated and stimulating diet, also of foods deficient in the elements of nutrition, should be made plain. Tea and coffee, fine-flour bread, pickles, COARSE VEGETABLES, candies, condiments, and pastries fail of supplying proper nutriment. Many a student has broken down as the result of using such foods…” (Ed 204.3)
“Albumen of vegetable origin is better when cooked...” {May 7, 1903 EJW PTUK 301.8}
“A Scotchman is launching a new form of vegetarianism in Paris. Its members eat and drink nothing but uncooked vegetable foods and natural liquids.” {June 21, 1894 EJW, PTUK 398.13}
***Notice how in 1894, some Scotch man came up with the raw diet in food and drink. THIS DID NOT COME FROM ADVENTISTS. IF THIS WAS THE DIET FOR US, GOD WOULD HAVE GIVEN ELLEN WHITE THAT COUNSEL IN 1863 WHEN HE GAVE HER THE HEALTH MESSAGE.
Red cabbage pairs well with scallions, ginger, and/or sesame seeds.
Red cabbage can be readily found at your local grocery and health food store.

Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a food for healing - PUMPKINS may help protect
your heart because of its high beta carotene
content. One study of almost 5,000 elderly people in the Netherlands found that the people who ate the most foods rich in beta carotene were
45 percent less likely to have a heart attack than those who ate the least amount. If you are thinking
of taking beta carotene supplements, better think again.
Researchers say
supplements may not have the same effects. And besides they are not healthy for us.
Two separate animal studies recently showed that pumpkin seed oil may improve the effectiveness of medications
used to treat high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
Pies are just one way to use pumpkin. It’s also delicious in chilled or hot soups, or pumpkin bread with carob chips. (My youngest daughter's favorite)
I really like pumpkin so it is strange that the only time I think of it is this time of year… Thanksgiving! Here is a recipe that is a very good vegan pumpkin pie!
Pumpkin Pie
1- 15 or 16 oz. can pumpkin
12 oz. tofu, extra firm
1 c. honey
1 t. pink or celtic salt
¾ t. coriander
¼ t. cardamom
1 T. cornstarch (organic or non GMO)
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into unbaked pie
shell and bake at 350º for 1 hour! Delicious! Serve with homemade whipped
topping!
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving everyone and may God bless! :)

Plums
PLUMS are a sweet, juicy, low-calorie fruit that are a powerhouse in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Plums are an excellent source of Vitamin A, C, B-6, & K. Plums are also rich in minerals such as copper, iron, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, and magnesium. The magnesium in plums works as a natural tranquilizer which can sooth your nerves and also work as a catalyst to reinstate your natural REM sleep.
Some of the benefits from eating plums on a regular basis include improved vision, radiant skin, healthy brain functioning, regulated digestive tract, reduced inflammation, resistance against colds and infections, and improved metabolism.
PROTECT YOUR HEART
One medium-sized fresh plum contains 113 mg of potassium, a mineral that helps manage high blood pressure and reduce stroke risk. If that isn’t heartwarming enough, the reddish-blue pigment in some plums, called anthocyanins, may protect against cancer by mopping up harmful free radicals.
KEEP YOUR BOWELS REGULAR
Dried plums—a.k.a. prunes—are a tried-and-true way to help your bowel do its work (each prune has one gram of fiber). Eat them as is, or make a batch of softened prunes to keep in the fridge to have with a fruit meal: Soak a few handfuls of prunes in freshly boiled water, cool and store in a covered jar in the fridge.
LOWER BLOOD SUGAR
According to the Dietitians of Canada, plums rank low on the glycemic index, which means eating them can help you control your blood sugar and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
BOOST BONE HEALTH
Researchers from Florida State and Oklahoma State universities tested two groups of postmenopausal women over the span of 12 months for bone density. One group ate 100 grams of prunes per day (about 10 prunes); the other ate 100 grams of dried apples. Both groups took calcium and vitamin D supplements. The findings indicated that the prune group had substantially higher bone mineral density in the spine and forearms.
IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY
Did you know that eating three to four antioxidant-rich prunes a day can help neutralize cell-damaging free radicals that affect your memory?
Plums are especially good for digestive disorders such as IBS, gastritis, and constipation. They are also excellent for autoimmune diseases such as chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, fibromyalgia, raynaud’s, cardiopathy, lupus, vertigo, and colitis.
For best flavor, wait until the plum has fully ripened and is very soft to the touch. Plums come in a variety of colors from dark purple to yellow and red and can range from sugary sweet to tart and rich. They are excellent!

Macadamia also lowers the level of triglycerides, which is a kind of body fat and reduces the risk of coronary disease.
2. Antioxidants
Another health benefit of macadamia comes from their high flavonoid content. Flavonoids, which are found naturally in these plants help to prevent cells from damage and protects from environmental toxins. These flavonoids convert into antioxidants in our body. These antioxidants search and destroy free radicals and protect our bodies from various diseases and certain types of cancer, which include breast, cervical, lung, prostate, and stomach cancer.
3. Weight Loss
People usually avoid eating macadamia thinking that it is laden with fats and cholesterol. However, the fat in macadamia is monounsaturated fats which promote weight loss. Macadamia nuts are rich in palmitoleic acid, and omega 7 fatty oil that provide building blocks for the enzymes and control the burning of fat and curb the appetite. Palmitoleic acid increases fat metabolism and reduces fat storage. Their fatty acids content makes them an extremely satisfying food, and you will need only a handful to feel satisfied.
4. Proteins
Macadamias contain a significant level of protein, which is an essential component of our diet and forms muscles and connective tissues in our bodies. Proteins are a part of our blood and act positively on our health. They also help to maintain the health of hair, nails and skin.
5. Dietary Fiber
Macadamias contains around 7% of dietary fiber. Dietary fiber comprises of complex carbohydrates and includes many types of soluble and insoluble fiber. Dietary fiber promotes satiety, provides roughage, aids digestion and assist in reducing constipation and several other diseases related to it.
6. Bone Health
Phosphorus in macadamia plays a variety of roles including bone and teeth mineralization, metabolism, absorption and transportation of nutrients. Calcium also helps in the formation of teeth and bones. Manganese in macadamia helps the body to deposit new bone tissue, so that the skeleton stays strong as you age. Omega 3 prevents osteoporosis and reduces the severity of arthritis.
7. Promotes Brain Health
Macadamia promotes the health of the nervous system. Copper in macadamia helps to make neurotransmitters, the chemicals which our brain cell uses to send chemical signals.
8. Provides Oleic Acid
Macadamia nut oil is rich in oleic acid, which plays an important role in the reduction of inflammation and boosting of memory power. It also helps in lowering the symptoms of asthma and the levels of bad cholesterol in the body while increasing HDL (good cholesterol) levels. This fatty acid is also beneficial for skin health as it has superb moisturizing and regeneration properties.
9. Increases Nutrient Absorption Rate
As mentioned earlier, macadamia nut oil has high
monounsaturated fatty acid content. These fatty acids are important for good health as they help in increasing the rate of absorption of nutrients, as well as fat-soluble vitamins in the body.
10. Boosts Bone, Cell, And Tissue Strength
Macadamia nut oil plays a vital role in keeping the bones, cells and tissues of the body strong. This is because of its richness in magnesium. This mineral also provides support to muscle and nerve functions and helps in stabilizing heart rhythm.
11. Provides Optimal Amount of Omega Fatty Acids
According to experts, macadamia nut oil has just the right amount of essential omega fatty acids. It is important for your body to get an even amount of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids as an imbalance can cause health problems such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, etc. Studies suggest that consumption of these nuts reduces LDL cholesterol levels considerably. Since these fats are not produced by the body, it is important to gain them through your diet.
12. Prevents TEWL
Another nutrient that macadamia nut oil is rich in is linoleic acid. This is a fatty acid that greatly benefits the skin. It can prevent TEWL, or trans-epidermal water loss, from the delicate tissues of the skin.
13. Absorbs Free Radicals
Macadamia nut oil contains antioxidants such as Squalene and Vitamin E. These antioxidants prevent damage that is caused to the body by the free radicals by absorbing them. Free radicals also have the ability to change DNA. The antioxidants in this oil help in neutralizing the free radicals and prevent life-threatening diseases such as breast, cervical, breast or prostate cancer. They also delay the signs of aging and boost overall health.
14. Provides Hydration
Many factors, including beauty treatments, hot showers, etc. deplete moisture from your hair and skin. To make sure they are healthy, you need to keep them well-hydrated. As mentioned earlier, your body naturally produces palmitoleic acid, but it rapidly gets depleted with age. The omega-7 that macadamia nut oil provides plays a huge role in replenishing palmitoleic acid in your body and keeps your skin and hair hydrated.
15. Delays Skin Aging
The benefits of macadamia nut oil for skin are surplus. Macadamia nut oil has a high content of palmitoleic fatty acids. This is a nutrient that has great skin benefits as it delays the process of cell and skin aging. Because palmitoleic acid gets depleted fast as skin ages, it is important to have this oil. This is one of the reasons why macadamia nut oil is a key ingredient in many anti-aging products.
16. Protects Skin And Hair
The antioxidant properties of macadamia nut oil do not only protect your body from free radicals, but also your skin and hair as well. Your skin and hair are also highly prone to the damage caused by free radicals. The antioxidants in this oil protect your skin and hair from such damage and ensure health from within. You get glowing, youthful skin and strong, lustrous hair.
17. Prevents Hair Breakage
Have you ever used macadamia nut oil for hair? According to experts, macadamia nut oil can keep hair from breaking. It penetrates hair follicles and the scalp and helps in the improvement of hair elasticity and strength. With so many biological and environmental factors that cause hair breakage, macadamia nut oil is an excellent oil to have to reverse the damage done to your hair.
