Coriander Oil Kills E. Coli, MRSA: Study

The herb coriander -- also known as cilantro -- may be more than just a garnish or ingredient in your favorite dishes. The oil from its seeds could also combat serious bacteria like E. coli and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a new study suggests.

Scientists from the University of Beira Interior, in Portugal, found that a solution containing less than 1.6 percent of coriander oil was able to kill or at least slow down the growth of 12 bacterial strains, including E. coli, MRSA, salmonella and Bacillus cereus. Many of the strains cause food poisoning.

Coriander oil works by causing membrane damage to the bacteria, leading to cell death, according to the Journal of Medical Microbiology study.

Now, researchers said the oil could be used to help fight drug-resistant bugs -- it also has the potential to fight food-borne diseases by being added to food additives, TIME reported.

Coriander is commonly used in both Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, and has long been revered for its medicinal properties, researchers said. It's known as a home remedy for aiding with digestion, relieving feelings of nausea and helping to stop cramps.

There are other herbs that have also shown promise in fighting infection. A 2003 study by Australian scientists showed that basil essential oil is an effective antimicrobial against bacteria, mold and yeast, while a 2006 review from Tufts University researchers revealed that peppermint effectively works as an antimicrobial and antioxidant.

Delayed Cord Clamping

The benefit of waiting for the blood to stop pulsating from mother to baby is great. Once that happens, the baby no longer receives nutrients through the placenta.

Delayed cord clamping is very importantusually 3-5 minutes after birth. Wait until the cord has stopped pulsating, meaning the placenta has done its job and is no longer sending blood to the baby. DO NOT CUT SOONER.

At birth, for as long as the umbilical cord is pulsating (usually 3 to 5 minutes), most of this blood transfers to the baby. When the cord is cut immediately, the baby misses out on this normal biological blood transfer.

To prevent tearing…

Connection Between Mind and Body

BIBLE:
Proverbs 23:7 – “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...”

SOP:
But few realize the power that the mind has over the body. A great deal of the sickness which afflicts humanity has its origin in the mind and can only be cure by restoring the mind to health...”  {3T 183.2}

The state of the mind has largely to do with the health of the body.  And especially with the health of the digestive organs.” (CD 375.2)

Science confirms the link between the mind set and disease.

Cold & Flu Remedy

Nature's/Russian Penicillin:
3 grapefruit
2 lemons
2 large onions (chopped about 1-inch pieces)
2 whole bulbs garlic (chopped)
½ t. peppermint oil (optional)
½ t. eucalyptus oil (recommended)
1-inch piece of ginger grated (optional)
⅓ t. cayenne pepper (90,000 Heat Units recommended, but if you only have store-bought (40,000 Heat Units), that's okay.

Cut Grapefruit into 4 equal pieces, then cut those 4 pieces in half, leaving you with 8 pieces, and squeeze into a stock pot, squeezing all juice into the pot, then throw the whole peeling into the pot as well. Do the same with the lemons, only cut those into 4 equal pieces.

Mix everything together in the pot and add 8 cups of water, (½ gallon /2 quarts) and then bring to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, turn it on low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes, then turn it off and remove from the hot burner to a cool burner eye.

Drink ½ c. of this every half hour....this stuff is known to KNOCK OUT A COLD/FLU/RESPIRATORY PROBLEM, etc. This is only one recipe for one person for one day. One recipe is usually all it takes.

Be sure to use 2 whole bulbs of garlic and not cloves...the bulb is the whole big thing...to cut each clove, first cut off the hard piece at the end, then simply take a large cutting knife and lay the flat side of the knife against the garlic and press down hard. The peel should come right off. Do this to all the cloves, then chop them. They don't have to be finely chopped.

Please share this recipe with all your friends & family.

WARNING: Those people who take cholesterol medication cannot use grapefruit, so they would use oranges instead. If they are high cholesterol & diabetic, they cannot use the oranges either, so have them do lemon & lime instead.

By the way, only drink the juice of this batch. You don't eat the garlic, onions, etc. You can if you want to, but it's not required. Only the broth.

Coffee and Tea

Read this before you drink your next cup of coffee or tea!

HEART ATTACK
An extensive study by Dr. Hershel Jick the Boston of University Medical Center indicates that those people who drink 1 to 5 cups of coffee per day are likely to have a 60% greater risk of heart attacks. Those people drinking 6 or more cups per day appear to have a 120% greater risk than do those who abstain.

The American Physical Fitness Research Institute reports: A positive correlation has been found between coffee intake and blood cholesterol levels in coronary patients.”

CANCER
According to scientists from the Department of Epidemiology, and Kresge Center of Environmental Health at Harvard University, “About 25% of the bladder cancer in men, and about 49% of the bladder
cancer in women could be due to coffee drinking.”

BIRTH DEFECTS
National syndicated columnist Jack Anderson reported that “A University of Illinois team found that too much caffeine could cause birth complications. Of the 16 pregnant women who drank 6 to 8 cups of coffee per day, all but one had nasty consequences.” “In addition,” he wrote, “another team of scientists, this one at the University of Washington, has come up with corroborative findings.”

CAFFEINE IS IN COFFEE AND TEA
Coffee contains 100 to 150 milligrams of caffeine per cup, and commercial tea has about 90 milligrams per cup. Besides caffeine, tea also contains tannic acid, which is used in the hardening of leather.

DECAFFEINATED COFFEE IS NOT THE ANSWER
Methylene chloride is the substance used to decaffeinate coffee. It introduces the same carbon-to-chloride bond into the body that is characteristic of many toxic insecticides.

WHAT ABOUT SODAS?
Many sodas also have caffeine added to them to give the drinker a “lift”. The amount of caffeine contained in sodas is between 60 mg to 120 mg per 12 ounces. In addition to caffeine, sodas contain huge amounts of refined sugars—up to 12 teaspoons of sugar in just 12 ounces of soda! Sugar-free” sodas are no better, as they contain the chemical aspartame, which is linked to migraine headaches, seizures and even cancer.

Caffeine increases heart rate and affects the skeletal form so it can hunch you over.
Caffeine will double the risk of miscarriage by just drinking 3 cups.
Caffeine affects our minds.
Caffeine is an artificial stimulant.
Caffeine exhausts adrenal glands.
Caffeine depletes serotonin.
Caffeine is a temporary fix and you will pay the price in the long run.
Caffeine is a DRUG.

Animals that
eat the caffeine plant will die.
There are acids and harsh oils in coffee that affect the brain and central nervous system.

Coffee is a hurtful indulgence. It temporarily excites the mind to unwonted action, but the aftereffect is sad --prostration and exhaustion of the physical, mental, and moral forces. The mind becomes enervated, and unless through determined effort the habit is overcome, the activity of the brain is greatly lessened.” CH 441.4

In relation to tea, coffee, tobacco, and alcoholic drinks, the only safe course is to touch not, taste not, handle not. The tendency of tea, coffee, and similar drinks is in the same direction as that of alcoholic liquor and tobacco, and in some cases the habit is as difficult to break as it is for the drunkard to give up intoxicants. Those who attempt to leave off these stimulants will for a time feel a loss, and will suffer without them. But by persistence they will overcome the craving, and cease to feel the lack. Nature may require a little time to recover from the abuse she has suffered; but give her a chance, and she will again rally, and perform her work nobly and well.”  CD 430.1

Type of drink                      Mg of
Caffeine (minimum, can be more)
Soft drinks                                                 35 mg
Tea, caffeinated                                         50 mg
Coffee, instant                                           75 mg
Energy drinks                                          100 mg
Coffee, brewed                                        115 mg

I hope this helps you to see the dangers of caffeine and that you will want to delete it from your diet if you are still using it.

In the book SCIENCE IN THE KITCHEN, the book that our church used as a textbook for teaching health says that although it's a fruit, it's a nut.

And if you look at it, it is a nut. It has a hard-outer shell that has to be cracked.

It's one of those fruits that is neutral like olives.

And the prophet tells us to use milk, cream, or the equivalent when cooking our vegetables.  Now in today's day, we don't use milk and cream, so we use the equivalent.  And according to that health book by Ella, coconut cream is the equivalent and islanders have been using it on vegetables for years.

It's a wonderful replacement for milk and cream.

Here are the quotes from Sister White:

“...Vegetables prepared with only water, and everything else in like manner. This kind of cookery is health deform, and there are some minds so constituted that they will accept anything that bears the features of rigorous diet or reform of any kind.  {CD 212.1}

“...Vegetables should be made palatable with a little milk or cream, or something equivalent.  (CD 207.3)

The Coconut is perhaps the most important of all the shell fruits, if we may judge by the variety of uses to which the nut and the tree which bears it can be put. It has been said that nature seldom produces a tree so variously useful to man as the cocoanut palm. In tropical countries, where it grows abundantly, its leaves are employed for thatching, its fibers for manufacturing many useful articles, while its ashes produce potash in abundance. The fruit is eaten raw, and in many ways is prepared for food; it also yields an oil which forms an important article of commerce. The milk of the fruit is a cooling beverage, and the woody shell of the nut answers very well for a cup from which to drink it. The saccharine juice of the tree also affords an excellent drink; and from the fresh young stems is prepared a farinaceous substance similar to sago. The cocoanuts grow in clusters drooping from the tuft of long, fringed leaves which crown the branchless trunk of the stately palm. The cocoanut as found in commerce is the nut divested of its outer sheath, and is much smaller in size than when seen upon the tree. Picked fresh from the tree, the cocoanut consists first of a green outer covering; next of a fibrous coat, which, if the nut is mature, is hairy-like in appearance; and then of the woody shell, inside of which is the meat and milk. For household purposes the nuts are gathered while green, and before the inner shell has become solidified; the flesh is then soft like custard, and can be easily eaten with a teaspoon, while a large quantity of delicious, milk-like fluid is obtainable from each nut. As found in our Northern markets, the cocoanut is difficult of digestion, as is likewise the prepared or desiccated cocoanut. The cocoanut contains about seventy per cent of oil.

She says we shouldn't eat the meat/fruit inside the nut raw. It should be cooked. Milk can be made from it and used in potatoes and sweet potatoes.

There's a difference between eating the meat/fruit and making the milk from it which we are counseled may be used.

In my 1892 edition it's listed under nuts and fruit.

And it says about the cream this may be used at once as a substitute for milk page 394 in the book.
