HEALTH NEWS ~ April









It is so nice to have the nicer weather hereHow would you like to eat a banana split and have it be good for you?  Well here is a great recipe to try and it has NO ice cream!

Breakfast Banana Splits
Take cooked, warm or cold, oatmeal or brown rice.  Cut bananas over the top of it. Top with pineapple, blueberries and strawberries, or with whatever fruit you like.  Pour carob syrup on top and then put soy whipped cream and sprinkle with chopped nuts!

Carob Syrup
1 c. warm water
¼ c. soy supreme powder
⅓ c. carob powder
½ - ¾ c. honey (to taste)
½ t. salt

Liquefy in blender until smooth.

Whipped Topping
1 cup water
2 t. powder, heaping OR 2 T. agar flakes
½ c. raw cashews
⅓ cup honey or ½ cup raw sugar (I have used both and they both work great)
½ t. salt
1 can coconut milk

Stir together the agar and water, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.  Reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes.

Place remaining ingredients in blender along with hot agar mixture.  Blend on high until smooth, adding water as needed to make 3½ -4 cups total mixture. Pour into a quart container and chill in refrigerator several hours or overnight.

Before using, place chilled mixture (which will be quite firm---almost sliceable) in blender or food processor, and blend until creamy.  (If you have a lightweight blender, you should blend just half of the mix at a time.)  It should be the consistency of Cool Whip. Try not to add more liquid.  The mixture will eventually go through the blades and become creamy if you carefully push it toward the blades with a rubber spatula.

The agar is a key ingredient in this recipe. The mixture has to be re-blended only once.  Then it can be frozen and used without re-blending, but remains a nice creamy texture.  So make a double recipe and freeze in small containers to use as needed for icing, dessert topping or pancakes. Makes 6 cups.

Did you know that dairy ice cream is bad for you? It is unbelievably synthetic nowadays. Commercial ice creams have been found to contain the following ingredients:

DIETHYL GLYCOL: A cheap chemical that is used as an emulsifier instead of eggs.  It is identically the same chemical used in anti-freeze and in paint removers.

PIPEERONAL:  Is used as a substitute for vanilla.  This is a chemical used to kill lice.

ALDEHYDE C 17: Is used to flavor cherry ice cream.  It is an inflammable liquid which is used in aniline dyes, plastic and rubber.

ETHYL ACETATE:  Is used to give ice cream a pineapple flavor.  It is used as a cleaner for leather and textiles, and its vapors have been known to cause chronic lung, liver, and heart damage.

BUTRALDEHYDE:  Is used in nut-flavored ice cream.  It is a common ingredient in rubber cement.

AMYL ACETATE: (am-il-uh-see-tik,) Is used for its banana flavor.  It is used as al oil paint solvent.

BENZYL ACETATE: Is used for its strawberry flavor.  It is a nitrate solvent. If ingesting components of antifreeze, oil paint, paint remover, nitrate solvent, leather cleaner or lice killer does not sound appetizing to you; try some recipes for natural ice cream.  If you don’t have any, ask me as I have some I would be happy to share with you.

Ice cream is mainly made up of sugar and milk. Here is what inspiration says about combining the two together.

Sugar and milk combined are liable to cause fermentation in the stomach, and are thus harmful.”  CTBH 56

“THE FREE USE OF MILK AND SUGAR TAKEN TOGETHER SHOULD BE AVOIDED.”  CD 113 & MH 301

“Animals from which milk is obtained are not always healthy. They may be diseased. A cow may be apparently well in the morning, and die before night. Then she was diseased in the morning, and her milk was diseased; but you did not know it. The animal creation is diseased.”   TSDF 121

Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. Tell them that the time will soon come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter, because disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men.”   CD 356

Notice she said SOON come…well brothers and sisters, that time has come!

“THERE IS NO SAFETY IN THE EATING OF THE FLESH OF DEAD ANIMALS, and in a short time the milk of the cows will also be excluded from the diet of God's commandment-keeping people. In a SHORT TIME it will not be safe to use anything that comes from the animal creation.”   CD 411

“…salt, sugar, and MILK…We know that a free use of these things is positively injurious to health, and, in many cases, we think that if they were not used at all, a much better state of health would be enjoyed. But at present our burden is not upon these things. The people are so far behind that we see it is all they can bear to have us draw the line upon their injurious indulgences and stimulating narcotics.
We bear positive testimony against tobacco, spirituous liquors, snuff, tea, coffee, flesh meats, butter, spices, rich cakes, mince pies, a large amount of salt, and all exciting substances used as articles of food.”  (3T 21.1)

Can you name any food that is higher in calcium per cup than milk?  There are MANY….here are a few…Collards, Bok Choy, Turnip Greens, Kale and Sesame Seeds (at least 2 T.) So you see we can get plenty of calcium in other ways, we don’t need milk.

“…As disease in animals increases, the use of milk and eggs will become more and more unsafe. An effort should be made to supply their place with other things that are healthful and inexpensive. The people everywhere should be taught how to cook without milk and eggs, so far as possible, and yet have their food wholesome and palatable.”  (MH 320)

LOOK AT WHAT DOCTORS HAD TO SAY MORE THAN 10 YEARS AGO!  It’s got to be worse now I am sure.

“In reality, cow's milk, especially processed cow's milk, has been linked to a variety of health problems, including: mucous production, hemoglobin loss, childhood diabetes, heart disease, atherosclerosis, arthritis, kidney stones, mood swings, depression, irritability, allergies.” -- Townsend Medical Letter, May, 1995, Julie Klotter, MD

At least 50% of all children in the United States are allergic to cow's milk, many undiagnosed. Dairy products are the leading cause of food allergy, often revealed by diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue. Many cases of asthma and sinus infections are reported to be relieved and even eliminated by cutting out dairy.”  -- Natural Health, July, 1994, Nathaniel Mead, MD

Dairy products may play a major role in the development of allergies, asthma, sleep difficulties, and migraine headaches.”  -- Pediatrics 1989; 84(4):595-603

Most formula fed infants developed symptoms of allergic rejection to cow milk proteins before one month of age. About 50-70% experienced rashes or other skin symptoms, 50-60% gastrointestinal symptoms, and 20-30% respiratory symptoms.
