Hiccups In Babies

In general, occasional hiccups are not dangerous to a baby. They can occur from time to time in your infant and resolve on their own. Curing hiccups in a baby doesn't require any action.

Hiccups happen when something causes the diaphragm to spasm, and the vocal cords quickly shut. Air is forced out through the closed vocal cords, creating the hiccupping sound.

However, if you notice the baby seems to be hiccupping frequently and the hiccups are causing your baby pain or accompanied by vomiting after feedings, it is best to consult with a doctor.

Hiccups in babies tend to occur for no apparent reason, but feeding can occasionally cause the diaphragm to spasm. They may happen when a baby:

  • Overfeeds
  • Eats too quickly
  • Swallows too much air

Rubbing their back and rocking the baby back and forth can help them to relax. This may stop the spasms that cause hiccups.

Sugar:
A small amount of sugar on its tongue to stop them… 9 times out of 10 it will work. The logic behind this is, the sweetness of the sugar will distract the nerves, thus, preventing the diaphragm from contracting, and eventually stopping the hiccups in newborns.

Anise Seeds:
Anise seeds are also said to work effectively as a home remedy for hiccups in babies. Put one cup of hot water over a tablespoon of anise seeds. Once the mixture cools, give the baby a tablespoon of it.

Using a pacifier
Sucking on a pacifier may help to relax the diaphragm and stop hiccupping.

Taking a break to burp the baby
It is a good idea to burp bottle-fed babies every time they consume 2 to 3 ounces.

If a baby is breastfed, it is a good idea to burp the baby while switching between breasts.

Prevention
Hiccups are often not preventable, but following the strategies below may help:

  • Feeding the baby before they become very hungry, to keep them calm
  • Sitting the baby upright for half an hour after each feeding
  • Repositioning the bottle so that no air is near the teat
  • Ensuring that the baby's mouth is latched over the whole nipple

Hernias


Hernias are often perceived as a man’s problem, but women get them, too. When you talk to people about hernias, they tend to focus on groin hernias, which are the most common — and they are primarily a male problem, but other types of hernias are actually more common in women, while still others occur at similar rates in men and women.

femoral hernia occurs when a portion of the intestine pokes through a weakened area in the upper thigh muscle, just under the groin. Femoral hernias are more common in women than in men, it probably has to do with the shape of the pelvis, which is shaped differently to accommodate childbearing.

An umbilical hernia occurs when tissue lining the abdomen protrudes into the belly button area. Women get more umbilical hernias because of pregnancy — it’s that stretching of the abdominal wall — so you see more of those during childbearing years in women.

Hernia is a common problem. It causes a localized bulge in the abdomen or groin.

Hernias can commonly be found in the following areas:

Groin: a femoral hernia creates a bulge just below the groin. This is more common in women. An inguinal hernia is more common in men. It is a bulge in the groin that may reach the scrotum.

Upper Part Of The Stomach: a hiatal or hiatus hernia is caused by the upper part of the stomach pushing out of the abdominal cavity and into the chest cavity through an opening in the diaphragm.

Belly Button: a bulge in this region is produced by an umbilical or periumbilical hernia.

Surgical Scar: past abdominal surgery can lead to an incisional hernia through the scar.

Causes
With the exception of an incisional hernia (a complication of abdominal surgery), in most cases, there is no obvious reason for a hernia to occur. The risk of hernia increases with age and occurs more commonly in men than in women.

A hernia can be congenital (present at birth) or develop in children who have a weakness in their abdominal wall.

Activities and medical problems that increase pressure on the abdominal wall can lead to a hernia. These include:

  • Straining on The Toilet (due to long-term constipation, for example)

12 REASONS WHY HERBS ARE BETTER

1 - All drugs have side effects: some commonly considered “Harmless” list 30-40 possible different side effects, some very serious.

2 - Our body is a living organism, not a machine, plants have complementary actions on the body while drugs have only chemical action, and they have no life force and therefore cannot impart life force.

3 Herbs have virtually no side effects because their actions are in harmony with our body.

4 - With few exceptions, Herbs are non-poisonous. Huge amounts of most herbs could be eaten with no adverse effects, while everyone knows of the terrible effects of overdose on even common drugs.

5 - Herbs “Normalize” the body. A herb for high blood pressure will not cause low blood pressure if you take more of it, but a drug for high B/P can be fatal if too much is taken.

6 - Drugs cause re-bound reactions. One of the common ones is seen with decongestant nose sprays; when they wear off the nose is more congested than ever. Herbs never do this because their action is in harmony with the body not in opposition to it.

7 - One fact that is not commonly thought of is the complexity of herbs. We think that the drugs created in the laboratory are complex, but no laboratory could begin to produce the complexity of a simple herb! The smell of a rose, for example is made up of over 200 chemical compounds and the smell of a banana, over 350! We have proved this herb is fatal to animals!”)

12 - So when you hear the outcry raised that such and such a herb is ‘dangerous’, don’t take it too seriously.

REMEMBER: ALL drugs are potentially dangerous! Very few herbs are in the least dangerous.
